An americano is not an espresso!

Nor are cappucinos, lattes, mochas, or any other beverage that isn't finely ground coffee brewed under high pressure in small quantities.

Perhaps I'm whining, but when I ask for an espresso at a coffee shop, I don't expect the response to be, "So you want a(n) X", or some similar statement where X isn't espresso. The barista cheerfully informed me people really mean americano when they say espresso, and expressed shock when I stated that I really wanted an espresso. Is it to much to ask that when a patron asks for a specific drink, the assumption is that they want what they're asking for?
